Ask what is included before comparing prices.

One salon may quote installation labor only; another may bundle the hair system, fitting and haircut. A lower headline number is not necessarily the cheaper first year.

What can appear in an installation quote?

Base preparationWill the base be trimmed to your template?Shaving/preparation or resizing

Three ways services are priced

1. Bring your own system

You buy the unit online and pay a stylist for fitting, attachment and cut-in. This can make product comparison easier, but confirm the stylist accepts outside systems and whether they guarantee work on that base.

2. Salon package

The salon supplies the system and service together. It may be convenient, but ask for the brand/model or written specifications so you can compare like with like.

3. DIY maintenance after a professional first fit

Some wearers pay for the first fitting and learn routine removal and rebonding later. This can reduce service costs, but it requires safe technique, time and the right products.

Do not compare only the first appointment.

Estimate a full year: system replacements + first installation + rebonds + supplies + travel. Use the same replacement and maintenance assumptions for each option.

Copy this message to a stylist

Hi, I’m considering a hair system and would like an itemized quote. Does your price include the system, consultation/template, base trimming, scalp preparation, attachment supplies, cut-in and styling? Do you work with systems purchased elsewhere? What do regular removal/rebond appointments cost, and how often do you typically schedule them?

Quote red flags

  • No exact explanation of the system or service included.
  • A lifespan promise presented as guaranteed.
  • Pressure to alter your hair before confirming the product and return terms.
  • No discussion of maintenance frequency or ongoing cost.
  • No patch-test or scalp-safety guidance for adhesives and removers.

Calculate your own annual cost

Our calculator lets you enter the unit price, replacement cycle, cut-in, supplies and maintenance separately. It is more useful than relying on a single “average” that may not match your city or routine.

Common questions

Is a cut-in the same as installation?

Not always. Installation can mean attachment; cut-in means shaping and blending the hair. Ask whether both are included.

Can any barber install a hair system?

No. Confirm specific experience with your base type, attachment method and outside systems before ordering.

Is DIY always cheaper?

It may reduce appointment costs, but supplies, time, mistakes and shorter unit life can change the calculation.

Editorial approach

Prices vary substantially by location, service scope and product. This guide therefore focuses on quote structure rather than presenting one universal price. Confirm current local fees directly.
